About Prakritheeyam

Donation of Land

Smt. Anandi Ramachandran, President, Prakritheeyam, had donated 50 cents of land at the foot of Mayilatumpara to United Library, Irinchayam in January 2013 for developing a grove which has contributed to the cause of afforestation. Mayilatumpara belongs to the forest areas in Nedumangadu Thaluk that come under the category of ecologically sensitive areas.

Registration

The registration of Prakritheeyam took place on 15 July 2014 after several discussions and deliberations to chart out future plans. Our founding members are: Smt. Anandi Ramachandran, Sri. V. Ramachandran, Smt. O.V. Usha, Dr. B. Balachandran, V. Shinilal, S. Sajith and Shinu S.

Inauguration

Prakritheeyam was formally inaugurated on 28 December 2014 by noted green activist Kallen Pokkudan. The programme for the day opened with a children’s camp. More than three hundred children attended the camp. The resource persons were: Dr. M.N. Karassery literary critic and social activist, Mr. Shihabudeen Poythumkadavu (Writer), Ms. Anitha. S (Environmentalist) and Dr. M. Kamarudeen (Botanist).

An exhibition of wild life photographs by Sali Palode was also held from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm. The inaugural session opened at 5 pm with a Vinayaka Vandanam dance performance by Malavika Nair. Smt. Anandi Ramachandran, President, Prakritheeyam accorded welcome and Rashmi Satheesh rendered a welcome song. The session was presided over by Dr. B. Balachandran Secretary of the society. Swami Kumaranandagiri (Giri foundation), District Collector Dr. Biju Prabhakar IAS, Dr. M.N. Karasseri, Dr. George Onakkoor, Sreedevi Unni (actor), and several others offered felicitations. Sri. V. Shinilal, Treasurer made a presentation of the vision and mission of the society. Sri. Irinchayam Sajith, Joint Secretary proposed the vote of thanks. There was a performance of Kadal Music Band Thiruvananthapuram, after the inaugural meeting.
